CANCELLED: 9 a.m., Saturday, March 3, Wildlife Clues Walk.  Learn how to recognize clues to the plants and animals that live in and visit the Woods .  Meet at the Estuary Center, 333 George Washington Street, to carpool to the Chatham Street entrance to the Weir River Woods.  Sponsored by the Hull Land Conservation Trust and Weir River Watershed Association.  Free.

Salamander Search on an evening later in March.  Salamanders' night march to their natal vernal pools is most likely to happen on the first mild rainy night of spring.  The ideal conditions are thawed ground, air temperature in the 40s, rain, little wind, and darkness.  Migrations may take place on several nights if the conditions are right.  Watch for the date.

8 a.m., Saturday, April 7, Spring Bird Walk.  Join experienced birdwatcher Sally Avery as we listen for the mating calls of birds.  Meet at the Estuary Center, 333 George Washington Street, to carpool to the Chatham Street entrance to the Weir River Woods.  Sponsored by the Hull Land Conservation Trust and Weir River Watershed Association.  Free.

9 a.m., Saturday, May 5, Spring Woods Walk.  Rejoice in the many signs of spring in the Woods.  Meet at the Estuary Center, 333 George Washington Street, to carpool to the Chatham Street entrance to the Weir River Woods.  Sponsored by the Hull Land Conservation Trust and Weir River Watershed Association.  Free.  Watch for the date and time for the annual Straits Pond and Weir River Estuary Spring Clean-Up coordinated by the Straits Pond Watershed Association.

9 a.m., Saturday, June 2, "June is Bustin' Out All Over" Woods Walk.  Find flowers and berries in the Woods.  Meet at the Estuary Center, 333 George Washington Street, to carpool to the Chatham Street entrance to the Weir River Woods.  Sponsored by the Hull Land Conservation Trust and Weir River Watershed Association.  Free.

Walks are adapted to visitors.  Allow up to two hours for your walk.

 

The Weir River Estuary Center, 333 George Washington Boulevard next to Gosnold Street in Hull, is now open for use!  This town-owned building is leased by the Weir River Watershed Association.  It has been renovated as a "green" building by the WRWA, its partners, the Surfrider Foundation and Hull Performing Arts, and many volunteers.  To find out more, go to www.weirriver.org
