"How to Read the Woods" Walk. 9 a.m., Saturday, March 6. With conservation biologist Amy May. Meet at the Estuary Center to carpool to the Weir River Woods.
"The Sun's Out," Hull Motif Silent and Live Art Auction. The Red Parrot Banquet Room. Creative Black Tie Event. Saturday, March 20. 7-10 p.m. Tickets $10. Cash bar with light hors d'oeuvres. Spring Birds Walk. 8 a.m., Saturday, April 3. Join Sally Avery as she identifies the Woods' birds by sound and sight. Meet at the Estuary Center to carpool to the Weir River Woods.
Spring Woods Walk & Estuary Clean Up. 8 a.m., Saturday, May 1. Discover the early unfolding life of the woods. Afterwards, from 10 to noon help with the Estuary clean-up and enjoy the noon picnic. Meet at the Estuary Center to carpool. Afterwards enjoy festivities at the Carousel.
Late Spring Woods Walk. 9 a.m., Saturday, June 5. Spring is bursting out all over. Meet at the Estuary Center to carpool to the Weir River Woods.
Summer Woods Walk. 9 a.m., Monday, July 5. Berry time is coming. Meet at the Estuary Center to carpool to the Weir River Woods.
Estuary Paddle. 5 p.m., Saturday, July 17. Watch for details.
Rock Tour. 9 a.m., Saturday, August 7. Discover the rare geology between the Estuary and Ocean. The volcanic rocks were formed 600 million years ago over the South Pole. Meet at the Estuary Center to carpool.
Late Summer Woods Walk. 9 a.m., Monday, September 6. See the first fall colors. Meet at the Estuary Center to carpool to the Weir River Woods.
Estuary Center Green Open House. 10 a.m. - 4 p.m., Saturday, October 3. 333 George Washington Boulevard. Learn about the Skystream wind turbine, rain garden for filtering run-off, 3 different brands of solar hot air collectors, temperature and weather monitoring, Velux Daylight Tubes, soy-based foam insulation, concrete siding, high-efficiency toilet, and recycled construction materials. Fall Color Woods and Salt Marsh Walk. 9 a.m., Saturay, October 16. Enjoy the colors of red maple, blueberry, and glasswort. Meet at the Estuary Center to carpool to the Weir River Woods.
Fall Leaves Woods Walk. 9 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 7. Collect red maple leaves and enjoy the fall woods and marsh. Meet at the Estuary Center to carpool to the Weir River Woods.
Late Fall Woods Walk. 9 a.m., Saturday, December 4. See holly in its Woods setting. Meet at the Estuary Center to carpool.
Walks are adapted to visitors. Allow up to two hours for your walk.
The Weir River Estuary Center, 333 George Washington Boulevard next to Gosnold Street in Hull, is now open for use! This town-owned building is leased by the Weir River Watershed Association. It has been renovated as a "green" building by the WRWA, its partners, the Surfrider Foundation and Hull Performing Arts, and many volunteers. To find out more, go to www.weirriver.org
